Story

The 2008 Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing's (CADS) Ski Improvement and Race Development Festival received $10,000 from Hosting BC. The event focused on skier and snowboarder skill development and goal setting; athletes with a wide range of disabilities progress in their skills through to competition. Twenty-one athletes, aged 9-60, attended the Festival, coming from the US, Great Britain and 10 Canadian provinces.

The Festival provided opportunities for instruction development and valuable experience for officials, volunteers and athlete classifiers in preparation for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. Direct economic benefit includes increased revenues for hospitality industries and local suppliers. A restaurant and services accessibility guide was designed for the community of Sun Peaks. Local volunteer instructors upgraded their skills to CADS certification standards.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
