Story

The 2008 Cross Country Race the Ranch Canada Cup Mountain Bike Race received $10,000 from Hosting BC. The event drew 370 athletes, aged 13-55, who came from eight provinces to compete in front of 500 spectators. Forty volunteers supported the event.

The event allowed local racers to compete nationally without significant travel expense and was used as an opportunity to train BC organizers on timing equipment and strategies. Legacies from the race include a new and permanent race course at Kamloops Bike Ranch Mountain Bike Park. Equipment, such as tents and generators, purchased for the event may be used at future events.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
