Story

Victoria and surrounding communities were among more than 83 communities to celebrate Spirit of BC Week 2007. A Swim and Health Day involved a free family swim with a health fair set up around the perimeter of the pool and on the mezzanine. The fair featured a series of stations providing educational information, interactive opportunities, and demonstrations, such as the Eat Well Get Moving Program; parenting Workshops; Healthy Eating Options; and Imagination market. Swim relays and other pool games were led by the swim club.

In addition, Winterfest transformed Pearkes Recreation Centre into a magical winter wonderland. The festival featured a pancake breakfast hosted by Saanich Neighbourhood Place with proceeds going to a food bank; a huge indoor fun space including a bouncy castle, kinder gym equipment, and face painters; on-ice activities and games of chance; and an appearance from a special children's entertainer. There were also door prizes, art activities and exhibitors.

Spirit of BC is a province-wide program that involves 95 Spirit of BC committees, representing over 200 communities across the province. These committees support local programs and help create opportunities in sport and recreation, arts, literacy, volunteerism, business and tourism. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia. Visit SpiritofBC.com for more information.
