Story

Delta residents crowded City Hall to celebrate local athletes heading to the 2008 BC Winter Games, part of the Delta Athlete Send Off and Welcome Back Celebration Program. The program celebrates local athletes both before and after their competitions.

"The Delta Spirit of BC Committee is pleased to celebrate and recognize the athletes of Delta who are representing our community," said Spirit of BC Chair Carlene Lewall. "Delta is home to some great athletes and we are very proud of each of them."

Each celebration is simple, but unique to the athletes and coaches involved. The program, which encourages, celebrates and recognizes local athletes, began in 2004 to welcome home Delta's Olympic Summer Games athletes. The event has become a tradition looked forward to by residents and athletes alike.
