Story

Funding of $5,000 from Exploration allowed the Vancouver School District to host a sport and recreation camp for 25 children, aged 7-12. Activities included a multi-sport program as well as soccer and basketball. Held at General Brock Elementary, the camps included swimming, yoga and cardio training.

Organizers say the camp was an opportunity for children to engage in healthy activities, relieved parents of child-care pressures and helped students develop leadership and teamwork. Organizers say Explorations allowed children to experience a camp in their own community and enabled participation from lower-income families.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
