Story

With $5,000 in Explorations funding, False Bay School offered an arts, sport and recreation camp for 38 elementary school children. It was the first camp of its kind on Lasqueti Island and included students who attended the local school, home schooled students as well as children from summer homes on the Island.

Activities included gymnastics, karate and circus skills as well as participating in the SportFit fitness challenges. Through the ExplorArts program, the students created images in 3-D and painted a mural for the school wall. They also recorded a series of their own vocal and rhythmic pieces on the computer.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
