Story

Duncan received $15,000 from Measuring Up and is working with the District of North Cowichan on its projects. Funds were used to hire a part-time coordinator and to develop an accessibility audit workbook and sensitivity training, used in interviews with local business owners concerning accessibility issues and workplace barriers. Completing the audit and training earns the business an accessibility decal that indicates persons with a disability can access the business as a customer or employee.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
