Dancing On the Edge Festival Celebrates 20th Anniversary

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Dancing on the Edge Festival, ten outstanding choreographers and their dance companies were commissioned to create new works that premiered at the 2008 festival. Thanks to $150,000 from Arts Partners in Creative Development, both established and emerging contemporary choreographers, many of whom have a history of creating work for the festival, were involved in the project. Seven of the ten commissions were presented in mixed programs and ranged in length and style. Two of the pieces were created as site-specific works and were presented in selected locations in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside neighbourhood.

Arts Partners in Creative Development assists BC arts and cultural organizations to create and develop new works or further develop existing works. The program is in partnership with Canada Council for the Arts, Province of British Columbia, City of Vancouver, Vancouver Foundation and VANOC.
