Cumberland Measures Up in Accessibility

Story

Cumberland received $15,000 from Measuring Up. This grant enabled the community to work with the Comox Valley Regional District on a continuation of the Comox/Courtenay Measuring Up project, focusing on transportation as well as sport and recreation. Recommended activities include developing disability resources and business access guides; sensitivity training for transportation industry workers; and an information guide on recreation programs for persons with a disability.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
