Story

The 2007 IPC Nordic Skiing and Biathlon Paralympic World Cup Finals received $40,000 from HostingBC. Fifty athletes and 12 guides, aged 18-58, competed in front of 500 spectators at Mount Washington. Athletes came from 12 nations including Sweden, China and Russia and five Canadian provinces. More than 400 volunteers supported the event.

Economic benefit to the Comox Valley was estimated at more than $300,000. The World Cup helped develop athletes in preparation for the 2010 Winter Games and provided training and international experience for a pool of volunteers and officials who may serve at the pre-Olympic/Paralympic events in the area and at the 2010 Winter Games. New competition facilities built in 2006 were proven as world class and will attract future competitions. Improvements made for the Cup, such as boardwalks to allow wheelchair access over snow, new timing equipment, and fencing is available for future competitions at the site.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
