Comox Measures Up in Accessibility

Story

Comox received $20,000 from Measuring Up to conduct a regional community assessment in partnership with Comox Valley Regional District member municipalities. Recommendations included developing business accessibility and community resource guides, more public education and better information on transportation options. The assessment also recommended sensitivity training for a variety of audiences, and more consistent, region-wide information on recreation programs available for persons with a disability.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
