Story

Funding of $10,000 from Explorations allowed Yarrow Community School to host an arts camp and a sport and recreation camp. The two camps attracted 29 students, aged 8-12, who participated in Frisbee golf, baseball, hiking, swimming and other activities at the sports camp. The arts camp activities included mural painting mask making, mosaics, and transforming recycled wooden bowls into painted decorative pieces.

Local camps allowed students to learn close to home instead of travelling to programs, which many families are unable to afford.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
