Story

The H2O Go! program partners canoe racing clubs and local secondary schools to offer dragon boat racing programs. Targeted to youth aged 13-17, the program involved 2,300 participants and 20 coaches in 12 communities across the province from 2004-2007.

Thanks to $120,000 in funding from the BC Sport Participation Program, Canoe Kayak BC purchased dragon boats and continues to work with the clubs to develop, promote and implement the program.

The following communities participated in the H2O Go! program: Burnaby, Delta, Fort Langley, Kelowna, Maple Ridge, Mount Currie, Nanaimo, Nelson, North Vancouver, Pemberton, Pitt Meadows and Vancouver.

The BC Sport Participation Program aims to increase sport participation in community and school-based sports. From 2004-2007 the program gave more than $2 million to 22 sport organizations running programs in 109 communities for close to 85,000 participants and more than 4,600 coaches. The program is funded by the Province of British Columbia and Sport Canada.
