Story

In 2007, Explorations funding of $5,000 enabled the Campbell River School District to hold an arts, sport and recreation camp for 31 children, aged 8-13. Six schools participated in the camp, hosted by Ecole Willow Point Elementary.

Campers took part in basketball, music, fine arts, and newscast production involving video camera work, editing and announcing news. Activities also included drama and choral singing, and campers staged a musical play for families at the end of camp. Students also received books in a Great Book Giveaway at the end of camp.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
