Burnaby Hosts the International Junior Table Tennis Championships

The 2005 World Junior Open Table Tennis Championships received $10,000 from Hosting BC. The event attracted 148 athletes under the age of 18, who came from 12 countries, including India, Croatia, Barbados and Hong Kong. There were 1,200 spectators for the event, which was supported by 67 volunteers.

Surplus funds from the tournament are earmarked for junior player development, coach and official development and equipment purchases. Economic benefits include increased accommodation sales as well as purchase of other goods and services by participants, guests and organizers.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
