Story
The 2005 Senior and Masters National Volleyball Championship received $10,000 from Hosting BC. The event attracted 270 athletes aged 20-55 comprising more than 50 teams from both Canada and the U.S.
Funding enabled purchase of laptop computers to provide instant updates and a public address system, all of which can be used at future events at the host venue, the Harry Jerome Sports Centre. There were 20 officials and 50 volunteers trained whose new skills will remain in the community. Economic benefits included purchase of accommodation and other services as well as increased visits to local tourism attractions. The high-profile event showcased B.C. to the national volleyball community as a host site and tourist destination.
