Story
The 2007 Pacific World Cup International Track Classic received $20,000 from HostingBC. There were 500 athletes competing, who came from seven countries, including Ireland, Switzerland and China, as well as from nine Canadian provinces. Athletes, aged 11-35, competed at Swangard Stadium in front of 2,500 spectators. The event was supported by 200 volunteers.
The Pacific Cup saw Canada competing against China and the event created closer ties to Team China and facilitated Canadian athletes traveling and competing in Beijing in 2008. Estimated economic benefit was $1 million with extensive media coverage expected to bring sport and other tourists to the area. Officials and volunteers were trained to international standards and may serve in future competitions.
