Story

The 2008 Pacific International Wrestling Duals received $8,000 from Hosting BC. The event at Simon Fraser University gymnasium showcased top athletes and built on success at the 2008 Games in Beijing. There were 25 athletes, aged 19-26, who came from India, Slovakia, Great Britain, Switzerland and five Canadian provinces. They competed in front of 100 spectators and 12 volunteers supported the event.

The event allowed local athletes to compete internationally without significant travel expense. Officials, coaches and volunteers upgraded their skills to international level and may serve at future major events. Direct economic development included increased revenue for hospitality industries and for local suppliers.

Hosting BC provides BC communities with funding to host national and international sport events. The program is supported by the Province of British Columbia.
