Story

With funding of $5,000 from Explorations, Bridgeview Elementary hosted an arts camp that attracted 44 children aged 6-12. Participants engaged in music, drama and dance activities. Students learned all aspects of theatre art including scriptwriting, lighting, costuming and set design. All children participated in a performance for families at the completion of the camp.

Organizers say this local camp offered a level of fine arts training that many families in the community might otherwise be unable to afford. In addition, pre- and post-camp child care was included, making the camps practical for working parents.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
