Story

Playground to Fairway is a school golf program that teaches elementary school children the fundamentals of golf in a playground setting. It connects schools, parents and children with golf volunteers, clubs and facilities. Playground to Fairway also offers Girls Golf, which enables young girls to learn the sport in an environment that supports self-esteem. Thanks to $25,000 from the BC Sport Participation Program in 2007-2008, more than 4,000 children and coaches in 13 communities participated in these programs.

The following communities participated in the Playground to Fairway program: Abbotsford, Chase, Chilliwack, Clearwater, Kamloops, Kelowna, Oliver, Oyama, Port Alberni, Richmond, Surrey, Vancouver and Victoria.

The BC Sport Participation Program aims to increase sport participation in community and school-based sports. In 2007-2008, the first year of a three-year funding cycle, the program distributed $668,000 to 24 sport organizations running programs in 99 communities for more than 40,000 participants and 1,700 coaches. The program is funded by the Province of British Columbia and Sport Canada.
