Basketball BC Expands the Steve Nash Youth Development Program

Story

The Steve Nash Youth Development Program is Basketball BC's community-based program for children in grades 2-7. It features basketball skill development, with trained coaches, in a fun and safe environment. With funding of $130,000 from the BC Sport Participation Program, the program expanded to reach 2,095 participants and 618 coaches in 27 communities from 2004 to 2007.

The following communities participated in the Steve Nash Youth Development Program: Bella Bella, Burnaby, Castlegar, Chilliwack, Coquitlam, Delta, Fort Nelson, Grand Forks, Kamloops, Kelowna, Kitimat, Langley, Mackenzie, Nanaimo, Nelson, North Vancouver, Oliver, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Prince George, Quesnel, Richmond, Surrey, Trail, Vancouver, Victoria and West Vancouver.


The BC Sport Participation Program aims to increase sport participation in community and school-based sports. From 2004-2007 the program gave more than $2 million to 22 sport organizations running programs in 109 communities for close to 85,000 participants and more than 4,600 coaches. The program is funded by the Province of British Columbia and Sport Canada.
