Story

With $4,500 in Explorations funding, Alex Hope Elementary held an arts, sport and recreation camp in the summer of 2005. The one-week camp attracted 23 attendees ranging in age from nine to 12. Activities strengthened leadership skills, allowed for hands-on activities, and supported reading and writing through fun and engaging activities such as hiking, swimming, cooking, print-making, and the creation of a memory book. Many of the activities linked with a second program taking place at the school, and connected the aboriginal studies curriculum with a canoeing lesson.

Explorations provided students in kindergarten to Grade 7 with opportunities to explore arts, sport and recreation in summer camp settings. The program, which ran from 2005-2008, served students who were otherwise unable to attend summer camps due to location, local resources or financial limitations. Explorations was supported by the Province of British Columbia.
