Story

The grand opening of the Abbotsford Spirit of BC Committee office at the campus of the University College of the Fraser Valley took place in May 2006. The event included more than 100 people, who were treated to fresh bannock, barbequed salmon and performances by a live band.

"We're celebrating much more than an office opening," said Hon. John van Dongen, Minister of State for Intergovernmental Relations and MLA for Abbotsford - Clayburn. "We're honouring the Spirit of BC committee volunteers and their work for our community so far, and the great plans they have for the future."

"The Spirit of BC Committee has done a great deal to build community spirit in Abbotsford," added Hon. Mike de Jong, Minister of Labour and Citizens' Services and MLA for Abbotsford - Mount Lehman. "Now that they have an official home I hope more of our citizens will be encouraged to get involved in creating lasting legacies for our community."
