Abbotsford Measures Up in Accessibility

Story

Abbotsford received $25,000 from Measuring Up. Funds were used to research accessibility issues, hold public forums to identify priority areas and support new programs. These programs include a 10-session after school recreation pilot for children aged 9-18 years and an ambassador program to conduct accessibility and inclusion audits of Abbotsford businesses.

In addition, funds support job developers to increase employment for people with disabilities and an accessibility audit of sidewalks, curbs and pathways in selected areas of the city.

Measuring Up helps communities assess and improve how accessible and inclusive they are for people with disabilities, seniors and others with similar needs. The program includes a fund, established by the Province of British Columbia, which offers grants to communities to complete accessibility-related projects.
