Story

In October 2009, 2010 Legacies Now and its partners announced a new project to build three accessible playgrounds in the venue cities of the 2010 Winter Games.

The three world-class playgrounds, designed for Vancouver, Whistler and Richmond, would feature accessible play spaces and activities to enable children with disabilities to play side-by-side with the families and friends.

The Province of B.C. committed $750,000 to the project, while Ronald McDonald House Charities of Canada contributed $300,000, and the Let's Play Project, a partnership of the Rick Hansen Foundation and the Province of B.C., provided $150,000. The cities provided the land, along with management and ongoing maintenance the playgrounds. The playgrounds were designed, free of charge, by Shane's Inspiration.
