the Spirit of BC Lives On

Story

As we moved beyond the 2010 Winter Games, our management of the Spirit of BC program came to a natural end, with several Spirit of BC community committees committed to carrying on their work in various ways.

The Abbotsford Spirit of BC Community Committee, for example, worked with community takeholders to create Volunteer Abbotsford, a volunteer centre that matches volunteers with non-profit organizations. Other committees are finding their own ways to keep the spirit alive within their hometowns through the partnerships they established leading up to the Games.

We thank everyone who participated in local committees and events for making Spirit of BC such an outstanding program. We extend our gratitude to the hundreds of amazing volunteers, in communities throughout BC, who dedicated their time to more than 95 Spirit of BC committees over the past six years. From organizing thousands of events during the annual Spirit of BC Week celebrations, to bringing 2010 Legacies Now programs into communities province-wide, British Columbians truly felt the spirit of the 2010 Winter Games long before the Olympic and Paralympic cauldrons were lit.
