Story

More than 100 communities celebrated Spirit of BC Week 2009 with more than 300 community events. From February 6-14, British Columbians of all ages showed their community spirit in this annual celebration. Throughout the week, Spirit of BC committees across the province hosted events ranging from winter festivals, arts showcases and literary readings. Events also included Spirit of BC Family Skate Day presented by BC Hydro, with approximately 50 communities inviting families to skate at the local rink for free. In another 25 communities, families were invited to swim for free at the local pool.

Spirit of BC Week was first held in 2005 as a countdown to the 2010 Winter Games and grew into a celebration of British Columbia and its unique communities. Held annually each February from 2005 - 2009, it's week of events and activities showcased British Columbians' pride in their province and profiling local programs and services.
